THE ALLUVIUM PROJECT
Preserving the Delta, One Story at a Time.
A student-led oral history project in the Arkansas Delta, inspired by the legendary Foxfire experiment.
THE STORY
Inspired by Foxfire. Rooted in the Delta.
The Alluvium Project is modeled after a landmark 1966 educational experiment in Appalachia called Foxfire, where a young teacher led students in creating an oral history of their region. That project resulted in a book that sold more than two million copies.
Our student team is replicating that spirit with a unique focus on the Arkansas Delta, exploring agriculture, faith, music, tourism, industry, philanthropy, education, and more. We’ve already formed a publishing partnership with the Forrest City Times-Herald, the newspaper of record for St. Francis County.

WHAT STUDENTS WILL DO
Learning By Doing. Leaving a Legacy.
Writing Skills
Students practice real journalism, conducting interviews, drafting articles, and refining their work for publication in a regional newspaper.
Oral History
By fanning out across the Delta, students capture the voices, stories, and traditions of a region whose history deserves to be preserved.
Community Impact
Every story collected becomes part of a lasting document that gives the Delta’s people and culture a permanent place in the historical record.
